What you need to know about the various scales

Just how many types of scales are there? Which ones should I know?

Today I want to simplify those answers and make it easier to understand. Each icon will define a type of scale. These will be the only basics ones you’ll need to know to play most music. There’s only 5, and they are as follows.

Major Scale

Major Scales consist of 7 notes. The pattern is W-W-H-W-W-W-H Example C major scale

Minor Scale

Major Scales consist of 7 notes. The pattern is W-H-W-W-H-W-W Example C minor scale
C D Eb F G Ab Bb C

Major Pentatonic Scale

Much like the major scale but a few notes taken out, so instead of 7 there is 5. Eaxmple C major pentatonic scale
C Eb F G Bb

Minor Pentatonic Scale

Much like the minor scale but a few notes taken out, so instead of 7 there is 5. Eaxmple C major pentatonic scale

Blues Scale

This unique scale is based off the minor/major pentatonic scale plus 1 one note.
